Undergraduate Director

Department of Physics & Astronomy

Welcome to my home page!

I am a computational physicist. I received my Ph.D. in computational condensed matter physics from the Department of Physics and Astronomy, University of Cincinnati. I serve as the Undergraduate Director for the B.S. in Physics program, and lead the Cohort Mentoring in Physics and Astronomy (CoMPAs) program for undergraduates in the department.

My Teaching Interests

I love teaching physics and have been teaching physics at Georgia State University for over 16 years. I currently teach introductory physics and upper division mathematical methods and computational physics courses. I am passionate about teaching physics and mentoring students. I strive to create an inclusive and engaging learning environment that fosters curiosity, critical thinking, and a love for physics. I believe in using innovative teaching methods utilizing physics educational research inspired pedagogical approaches, active learning techniques, and technology to enhance the learning experience and help students develop a deep understanding of the subject matter. Currently I am working on reforming the BS physics curriculum and integrating computations to all upper division courses.

My Research Interests

My current research interests involve physics educational research & innovative instruction in introductory physics & computational physics, applications of information-theoretical techniques & data analysis, and theoretical condensed matter physics. I am fascinated by the complex phenomena that emerge in strongly correlated electron systems, such as high-temperature superconductivity, and studied the effect of inhomogeneities in high-temperature superconductivity using the Dynamical Cluster Approximation (DCA).
